THE HALL PASS

A Theatre-Driven Enrichment Program for High School Students to Inspire

Empathy, Active Listening, and Constructive Dialogue…

Program Overview

The Hall Pass is a theatre-based enrichment program for grades 10–12 that strengthens active listening, empathy, and dialogue through storytelling and performance. Developed by The Hall Theater, the program embeds theatrical tools into school settings to create brave, structured spaces for students to practice having uncomfortable conversations.

The Hall Pass Model

• Story Sharing – students share personal narratives

• Theatrical Reflection – peers perform stories back

• Guided Dialogue – Town Hall–style led discussion

Early Impact (Pilot Participant Feedback, 2025)

• 70% reported increased empathy and understanding of others
• 60% felt more comfortable stepping outside their comfort zones
• More than 50% valued the space to practice being “comfortable with discomfort” • Most common takeaway: The Hall Pass is about learning to listen more deeply

Why It Matters

As students navigate relationships shaped by social media and polarization, The Hall Pass uses theatrical tools as a practice ground for active listening—helping students get comfortable with being uncomfortable, in order to reflect with humility, and in turn build stronger school communities.
